Makeover in Gloucester Park
A SWAT – Springwatch Action Team - has helped to transform a grot-spot into a beautiful breathing place...
This spring the focus is on SWAT – Springwatch Action Teams – a UK wide initiative linked to the BBC's Springwatch 2008.
Our challenge was to turn an unloved piece of land at Gloucester Park into a breathing place for nature and the community on Sunday 8th June 2008.
A special "SWAT team” of enthusiastic volunteers and experienced experts were involved in the makeover. The project was run in partnership with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
The plot of land in question is in a small corner of Gloucester Park. Work needed included clearing brambles and ivy, erection of bird and bat boxes, and painting over graffiti.
Semi-mature trees exist on the site, and these have a legacy to be proud of as they support a wealth of local wildlife.
