As we recover from the worst natural disaster ever seen in Gloucestershire, we'd like to match up your abilities and the needs of flood victims.

The idea? If you have been touched by the plight of the county's flood victims and have time to spare and a practical skill to share, get in touch with the CSV Action Desk and we'll put you in touch with people who need your help.

If you have could help re-plant a muddy garden, or re-decorate a flood-damaged flat, or even have a few hours to listen to someone who wants to talk about their recent experiences, your time could be invaluable.

Time banking was devised by American civil rights lawyer Dr Edgar Cahn in the 1980s, where his idea of one hour being equal to one time credit was to prove revolutionary.

In a time bank, participants earn credits for helping each other - one hour of your time entitles you to an hour of someone else's time.

So if you join the BBC Radio Gloucestershire Good Neighbour Scheme as a volunteer helper you don't just get the feelgood factor of helping others - you're actually in credit with the Gloucester Time Bank and can call on its services if and when you need help yourself.

The first time bank in the UK was set up in Gloucestershire in 1998 and from that grew the Gloucester-based national charity TimeBanks UK. There are now more than 80 time banks nationwide. To find out more about Time Banks UK, please click on the following link:
