IntroducingYou are in: Gloucestershire > Introducing > Band on the up! ![]() Irritant Band on the up!A few weeks ago, Gloucestershire band 'Irritant' requisitioned a warehouse just off Bristol Road in Gloucester. Stephen Morris shares his thoughts... The band were at the warehouse to record a video for their song “Voice of the Siren”. Now, the product of hours of takes, retakes and subsequent retakes of retakes has been edited together to produce a short film as grimy and industrial in look as the music it accompanies. Evolution:Gone is the whiter than white sterility that accompanied Irritant’s first video for “Old Bones”. Here, with “Voice of the Siren”, you can almost smell the grease, the dust and the rust of the warehouse as the band perform their gargantuan rock epic - a classic in the making. While “Old Bones” offered a stark, straightforward video of a band playing a song, Irritant have used their latest track to tell a story within their music video. CCTV cameras are trained on the band who have broken in to a warehouse. As the song progresses, we discover that there is more to this band that meets the eye. Maybe they’re not even a band at all…… Direction:The video was expertly crafted by Matt Frederick who, closer inspection of his website reveals, has something of a penchant for photographing camper vans. Please note, however, that no camper vans were used (or harmed) during the making of this particular video. Meanwhile, Irritant themselves are going from strength to strength. News from the mighty Irritant promotional vehicle indicates that the band will soon be working with the legendary producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven, whose previous work has involved production credits on albums by Black Sabbath, The Jam, Paul Weller and The Rolling Stones. Adulation:The EP containing “Voice of the Siren” will be released later on in June. It goes by the name of “Good Evening From The Machine”. Elsewhere on these pages, I have already waxed lyrical on this forthcoming collection of songs. Suffice to say that the tracks remain as impressive on their umpteenth listen as they do on their first. If you can’t wait until June (and who would blame you?), a visit to Irritant’s website should meet at least some of your needs. The site currently features the video for “Voice of the Siren” along with news of what the band are up to next.
