Glitz and glamour graced Gloucestershire at the annual Cirencester Advent Market. Cirencester Advent MarketActress Emma Samms brought a touch of Hollywood to the Cotswolds as she switched on the town's Christmas Lights. Thousands of people packed the Market Place to see the star of 'Dynasty', 'The Colbys' and the BBC's 'Celebrity Scissorhands' press the plunger which illuminated the town centre and lit up the Christmas Tree outside the Parish Church. Emma, who lives in the Cotswolds, was dressed in a tartan, cream and red outfit and told the audience how much she enjoys visiting and shopping in Cirencester. Help playing audio/video Speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Trish Campbell, she explained why she's swapped America for Gloucestershire; "My life is absolutely perfect; living where I live and I have two kids who I adore. Having a more real, normal existence is ideal for me". Visitors enjoyed a day of live music, street entertainment, a festive farmers market and the arrival of Father Christmas at his Grotto. Silly costumesThe Advent Market is organised by the Chamber of Commerce and marks the official start of the Christmas period for local traders. Once again the M.C. for the event was Vernon Harwood who presided over proceedings dressed as a Victorian Circus Ring Master, complete with top hat and tails. And what about Advent Market 2007? Organisers will be meeting in the next few days to start planning next year's extravaganza!
