Gloucester drum and bass DJ/producer Callide is looking for forward to an exciting New Year. After years of hard graft on the county's club circuit, he's finally getting some national recognition as his first twelve inch, Herbal Nation, gets ready to hit the UK's record shops. Callide (real name Dan Robertson) moved to Gloucester in 1998. He's been involved in the city's burgeoning jungle scene ever since, and currently hosts a Saturday night show (called, funnily enough, The Drum and Bass Show) on community radio station Gloucester FM. Deep In the clubs he’s performed alongside some of the world’s most esteemed DJs including High Contrast, DJ SS, DJ Hype and Mampi Swift. Callide describes his style as "delving deep into the uncharted territories of Drum and Bass." "It’s hard to label me with a particular style," he says, "as my sets range from liquid, to grime right through to the darker side, and more often than not." You're also likely to hear him playing exclusive dub plates of his own upfront material. Callide's big break as a music producer came when his track 'The Ferret' was featured on BBC station 1Xtra. The tune made it through to the final of the ‘Cutting Room’ competition, where it unanimously won with much support from the likes of L Double, Sappo, GQ and the 1Xtra team.
As a result it has raised his profile as an up and coming artist, sparking interest from various labels and producers. He has since had 4 tracks signed to Kinetic Recordings and Deadly Records. With more releases in the pipeline and his DJing taking him as far afield as Berlin, the future's looking decidedly bright for one of the county's rising stars of dance music. |
