This is Corinium Calling

A group of local bands are staging a series of gigs to help fund an album showcasing their talents.

A group of local bands have joined forces to stage a series of gigs to fund a compilation CD showcasing their talents.

Corinium Calling is the name of both the planned album and the live shows, which commence on Monday Sept 26 at the Rock Club in Cirencester.

Featuring Solace, Morph, The Holloh and Raison D'Etre, the show kicks off at 8pm. A chunk of the £4 admission fee will go towards producing the CD.

"When it's completed there will ideally be 20 tracks which work together all the way through," said Corinium Calling promoter Evan Burgess. "There are various genres on the record, from guitar pop by Solace, alt-metal by Morph, grunge by Crayfish and ska punk by British Beef."

Some of the artists have already experienced national recognition.

"Both The Holloh and British Beef have been aired on Radio 1," said Evan, "and British Beef have also had a video on MTV2 and various other music channels."

Evan hopes that the project will be an effective means for local bands to pool their - usually limited - resources.

"I decided I wanted to have a good record in shop for my band," he said, "but knew I didn't have the money or fan base to justify a professional CD.

"The only way round that was if I could work in the spirit of cooperation with other bands in the area to unite energies.

"The unique thing about Corinium Calling is that no band is actually paying to be on it because they're not putting money into the production of the CD or paying the rather expensive costs of live shows.

"It's essentially a free promotional tool where there is the potential for thousands of people to hear their band.

"The only payment made by the band is the effort of writing good songs, because I'm putting together an album of music I like.

Evan plans to stage Corinium Calling gigs at venues across the county to raise production costs of approximately £800.
