DJ
Missrepresent moved to Gloucester from Tewkesbury six years ago.
She adores DnB and works damn hard for her passion.
That male/female political thing is a big part of the DnB scene
but I just concentrate on the music and being there in front
of a great crowd makes it all worthwhile. |

She's
currently doing a National Diploma in Music Technology at Gloscat
to bring her up to speed with the production side of things but
her DJ career already seems to be on course for bigger and better
things.
"I
usually start my sets quite funky and light and then move the feel
towards the darker side towards the end," said Missrepresent.
"I
never have my sets planned out beforehand - unless I'm playing on
the radio. When you're playing to a live crowd you have to move
with them. So I'll have an idea of what goes with what but it's
never fixed."
Over
the last few months DJ Missrepresent has found herself on bigger
and better line-ups throughout the UK and has no qualms about being
a woman in a distinctly man's DnB world.
"I
s'pose I was always a bit of a Tomboy," she said. "That
male/female political thing is a big part of the DnB scene but I
just concentrate on the music and being there in front of a great
crowd makes it all worthwhile."

Missrepresent
is angry at the lack of support for DnB events in Gloucester
|
No
support
Missrepresent
is proud of her achievements over the last two years but is angry
that Gloucester City Council don't seem to give this very popular
musical genre any credence.
It's
so hard to promote a DnB night in this city. We can't fly post
and we can't even hand out flyers in the city centre or outside
clubs for fear of a £1000 fine. |

"The
council is scared. Scared of DnB because they don't understand anything
that seems a bit rowdy or urban.
"They
also think that the genre is all about drugs but every social scene
in the UK has some drugs around them. I never take drugs - I just
enjoy the music."
Internet
savvy
Missrepresent's
Internet site
is testament to her growing popularity. When we visited the site
on spec there were several people online chatting DnB and the forums
are fair humming with activity.
I've
got some excellent gigs coming up - the one in Cardiff is the biggest
line-up I've ever been on with Skibadee and Shabba-D.
Add
to that her Internet radio shows and in London it seems this young
woman doesn't intend to be Missrepresented on the DnB scene.
