arrow The world's first practical light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879.

arrow Just three years later an associate of his, Edward Johnson, caused a stir when he electrically lit a Christmas tree for the first time in the parlour of his New York home - located in the first section of the city to be wired for electricity.

BBC Gloucestershire and The Citizen newspaper have once again got together to find the county's most festively decorated home.

Lit up reindeer

Yes, the hunt is on again this year to find the most eye-catching festive houses in the county - in the Christmas Sparkler competition.

BBC Radio Gloucestershire breakfast show presenter Vernon Harwood has joined forces with Ian Mean, editor of The Citizen, to find the county's most decorative domestic Christmas light show.
