Even
if you find classical music a bore, the Gloucester Academy
of Music is sure to change your mind. Okay, so Im slightly
biased as I spent ten years of my life as part of the Academy,
but surely anything which provides such great tuition and
opportunities for young musicians is going to stand you in
good stead.
The
place to be
Gloucester
Academy of Music (G.A.M.) is the place to be, with high quality
musical tuition with both National and International excellence.
Its also officially associated to the renowned Trinity
College of Music in London. This excellence is borne out by
the number of its pupils who have gone on to further education
in music.
Recently,
several students who had attended G.A.M. have made it big,
winning places at prestigious colleges of music, such as the
Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Trinity
College of Music. Many more have achieved places at Universities
of their choice to study music.
Other
than these personal achievements, orchestras and chamber music
groups from G.A.M. Have played in venues such as the
Royal Albert Hall, London Purcell rooms, Birmingham Conservatoire
and Sydney Opera House. More recently, members from G.A.M.
led a performance of Mozarts Requiem at the Longborough
Festival Opera House.
Specialist
master classes
Typical
weekly classes at G.A.M. are individual instrumental lessons,
ensemble playing, choral training, chamber music and technique,
as well as specialist master classes and workshops. G.A.M.
also runs Easter and Summer courses in both Gloucester and
France which you can read about on their website.
If
musical theatre is more your thing, then theres the
'International Music Theatre Week' to further your performing
arts skills. Everyone has the opportunity to contribute ideas
to the main musical theatre piece they perform, entitled 'Flashback'.
From what Ive heard, its meant to be great fun,
so check back in a few weeks when Ill be reviewing the
final production of this year's 'Flashback'. Organisers at
G.A.M. tell me that they wish to introduce weekly performing
arts classes too, in the near future something to look
out for!
Opinions
Dont
just take my word about G.A.M., here are just a few opinions
from people on summer courses there:
Ollie,
14, and Cormac 16, both from Ealing are on the Intermediate
Orchestra course for the third year running with their Gloucestershire
friend, Tom, 16. They say the course is well-organised and great
fun. They enjoy the fact that they learn as well as having fun.
They love coming back to see everyone from previous years and
will be coming back next year.
Robin,
who's just 11 came from London, he finds the music challenging
and so really enjoys learning new things! Declan, also 11
says 'Its wicked'.
Tom,
14, another Londoner, has come for the fourth year to play
the clarinet at the Intermediate Orchestra Course. He tells
me that the teachers are really good, as is the welfare, and
that he really enjoys the friendly and relaxed atmosphere
of the course.
Tessa,
13, came all the way from Belgium for the third year running,
she just loves to play music and catch up with all her friends
shes made before at G.A.M.
