Sparrow and the Workshop are a transatlantic trio based in Glasgow. Jill O'Sullivan (vocals, Belfast and Chicago), Nick Packer (guitars, South Wales and London) and Gregor Donaldson (drums, Scotland) formed in early 2008 under a cloud of yeast fog from the nearby Tennent's lager factory. Among their favourite songwriters, they namecheck Johnny Cash and Brian Wilson and you don't have to listen too hard to hear their influence in Sparrow and the Workshop's retro-sounding concoction of rootsy alt-folk and country, imbued with doubled-up male/female vocals. The lead track, Devil Song, has attracted its fair share of airplay on the BBC, impressing Radcliffe & Maconie, Steve Lamacq, Vic Galloway and Huw Stephens.
