A lot of silly kids here. Yes, the BBC could have spelt out better what thet were allowed to show, but a lot of people seem to think that musicians shouldn't get paid for records. There are two sorts of professional musicians, those who are good at retaining their copyright and those who have other jobs to pay the bills.

Why do people think all these sixty year old rockers are playing gigs? Because they can't retire, that's why.

I expect Neil Young just doesn't like thieves. Btw, I'm not a professional musician, I'm an electronic enginner.

Why have most of the previous comments (incuding my own) been removed from this page?

There was a very strong consensus, critical of the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury in the first 120 posts.

Much of this was backed up by reasoned argument and we don't want to have to type all that back in again.

Please either reinstate all user's comments or at least make it abundently clear that posts will be deleted from this page in under 24 hours after posting them.

Hi, I work with the BBC interactive production team at Glastonbury and wanted to respond re the comments.

We're really sorry about comments disappearing which I'm afraid is a result of a technical problem which we're unable to solve over the weekend. We will do our best to get the missing comments displayed again once we're all back in the office and able to talk to the team who manage our comments technology. I can assure you there is absolutely no intention to censor your comments here.

I'm English, and I'd love to watch all the online BBC footage, but unfortunately I live in Ireland, and thus cannot. I pay a useless licence fee for the 'wonderful' advert-ridden RTE, which has little to no decent TV, certainly no footage of Glastonbury.

I don't consider myself a silly kid as vOlterra refers to many posters. Whatever the argument over copyright of the artist's music, the Beeb could surely have handled all this far better had they come clean and not led people to believe we would see the headline sets in full. It is not a question of people wanting to steal his music but being disappointed that our expectations were not met. Neil Young has always been his own man, thank goodness, so in many ways I am not surprised by his stance. The concert will probably come out in his Archives vol 12 in 2019 or something.
I think it has been great to see so many live bands - young and old (I am 60 by the way) but it doesn't mean that I can't make constructive criticism of the way that this, or the Glastonbury Guide on the TV, was managed (or should I say mismanaged). I believe the licence fee is fantastic value for money and I know the Beeb can't win all the time but it doesn't mean we can't comment where we believe improvements can be made.

My earlier comments were lost in the great purge of June 26.

OK, if the bbc were only allowed to show 5 songs, why not just show the first 3 songs of the set, erm maybe LIVE, then maybe the last song and possibly the encore, maybe the encore could have been no. 6... as its not official, like.

Maybe this would have been...not great, but a hell of a lot better than all that p**sing around the bbc did on friday night.

I mean, ok, there are rights restrictions, but what the hell does that have to do with watching presenters talk whilst the gig was playing in the background, not one second was broadcast live.

As for those asking why didn't you go? well a new baby puts the mockers a bit on that, and I don't think I have a right to see anything, but the bbc led me to believe I could look forward to a bit of live shakey on a friday night, they lied.

Good point Shotfan. I was speaking to some American friends and they said they'd pay 3 times the amount for a service with breadth and depth of the BBC.

To be honest, I thought the quantity of Neil Young they showed was merely a refllection of his relative popularity (surely an odd choice for a headliner?). To illustrate, there were loads of tickets left for his Hyde Park gig this weekend - Springsteen and the Killers sold out ages ago. Regardless of rights issues, I just thought it was the BBC reflecting public taste.

Some pretty mixed coverage in my view, although still compulsive viewing.

Have to agree though with comments about the airheaded presenters - some of these guys should be in kindergarten, not presenting the most important music festival in the world. They seem to think its cool to indulge in chummy banter with their heroes, making the whole event look like some crummy showbiz luvv-in.

In truth, it's never been the same since the sad death of the great John Peel. We also miss the humour, wit and vast musical knowledge of the likes of Mark Radcliffe.

So, better presenters please, or I will have to switch off (as I did several times when these clowns got too annoying......)

Neil chooses to portray himself as an outsider who's only interested in the music unlike mainstream bands who are only in it for the money(like Oasis etc etc). Reality is he is more commercially savvy than most and( like Zappa) builds up his fortune by pretending to be a train loving hobo. Still the music's great most of the time.

I SAY THE BEEB DID A GREAT JOB OF SHOWING US GLASTONBURY ON THE TELLY & ONLINE OVER THE WEEKEND..!!

THE ISSUE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE NEIL YOUNG SET IS DOWN TO NEIL NOT WANTING TO LET DOWN ALL THOSE FANS THAT HAVE PAID LOTS OF MONEY TO SEE HIM ON THAT SAME TOUR (good on him).

AS FOR THE PRESENTERS, MOST ARE PROBABLY TOTALLY SHATTERED AFTER FINISHING THIER VARIOUS RADIO SHOWS ETC ETC, GETTING READY FOR THE FESTIVAL, TRAVELLING, WORKING & PARTYING ALL WEKEND OF COURSE, ANYONE WHO'S BEEN TO THIS FESTIVAL WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN, SO COME ON, GIVE THEM A BREAK..!!

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MORE DIVERSE CHOICE OF BANDS THOUGH, I'M AN EATSTATIC, STEVE HILLAGE & GONG FAN & WOULD LOVE TO OF SEEN STUFF LIKE THAT FROM SOME OF THE SMALLER STAGES, BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT'S PROBABLY NOT WHAT THE MASSES WANT.

TO ALL THOSE THAT ARE COMPLAINING ON HERE, REMEMBER WHEN CHANNEL 4 COVERED THE FESTIVAL HA HA WHAT A SHAMBLES..!!

    WELL DONE TO THE BBC

In response to the muppet called fromdelmonte regarding your comment that Neil Young was an odd choice to headline. Do you live under a rock or are you just stupid ? I do not need to explain the legend that is Neil Young, so I won`t. As for your cretinous statement about The Killers and Hyde Park, Neil Young has been a major recording artist for over 40 years while The Killers have been on the scene for 3 or 4 years, so if The Killers can fill Hyde Park in 36 years time your point may have some validity.

The BBC did well on what they showed, however repeated a lot and missed out bands such as Echo and the Bunnymen, which was unforgivable.

With regards to Neil Young, Hey Hey My My and Heart Of Gold would have been better inclusions with Rockin' in the free world.

On the standard of presenters. This has been a downward trend in quality for several years in all areas of the BBC. I place this solely on their diversity (PC) policy. Where instead of employing people on their merits, they have to employ a percentage from many minority groups.

Oh and to Celia 1951, It is quite easy not to watch or listen to the BBC for a week, when there is so much other choice on Digital radio / TV, Internet and PlayStation Gaming etc. With regards to good sitcoms that haven't been produced by the BBC = Rising Damp.
