Why one hour of The Specials (who were great, by the way) but only five songs by Neil Young, who was actually the headliner of the night? Regardless of taste, that is wrong. What is the point of being considered great enough to headline if the BBC decides you aren't great enough to warrant more coverage. Why so much of acts listed far lower, e.g Lily Allen et al. Why no Bruce set? Why only higlights? How many songs does that mean? Agree with many others. Apalling coverage. You have let us down big time BBC. You seem incapable of doing a good job these days.
ok Mark Cooper, so Neil Young has decided to make stipulations about what he will allow to be televised - and that's fine. However, in the interests of safeguarding trust, why don't your hopelessly patronising presenters own up to that on air so that at least the audience can understand the problem?
....and don't ask me about the BBC 2 set - did Ms Whiley really make the incredibly tasteless comment about John Peel "getting lost in it", or was I just suffering from hearing loss because of my age?
Agreed - these presenters are just not up to standard. I too feel they are being very patronising and at times, disrepectful to the artists such as suggesting Neil would fit right in with carved wooden mushrooms given his older appearence - such cheek from people who have and will never accomplish anything that touches the work of Neil Young!
Everyone here at least agrees the presenters and the televising of glasto is at time are so irritating. Find them patronising and at the same time the banter with some of the musicians is just cringeworthy (some woman who was talking to florence and the machine shouldn't be being paid for talking what was basically rubbish). Also this technique of promising various acts "coming up" - translation 45mins/1 hour later. Enjoying this Bruce set. There's a lot of people who decide not to pay license fees and fill their boots with quality - term for these people is "free-rider" and they are the reason license fees are £140 and not significantly cheaper.
Having seen Neil in Aberdeen he was superb so sorry for you folk who didn't get to see a whole set - the rights and wrongs of whether the BBC could or couldnt show the whole set should spur you on to attending one of Neil's concerts rather than moaning!
angryatthebeeb should have attended one of Neils concerts if he is so keen. The BEEB does a great job in showing much of such concerts and has a huge archive of material so please dont moan because you've only seen a part of a performance
oh this is such a good performance it puts the new bands totally to shame this to me has made glastonbury and i have never listened or seen neil young before!!!!!!
I guess the artists sometimes leave it till the last minute to decide whether to allow live set to be screened. I presume the presenters don't know themselves till the last minute whether what they have been told to flag up will be screened. I think these teasers are all getting a bit Jeremy Kyle, though. Keeping you hanging on for something that's supposed to be "next". And why is the presentation ranged across lots of channels when it's totally confusing as to what's on when and where. Often, you end up seeing the same bits again and again. And how come the BBC which now owns Freeview is saving stuff up for "satellite and cable viewers". Do they just mean the interactive channels? And maybe someone can explain why - when there are hundreds of acts - we only get to see a handful. Is it a rights issue again? I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing. But as with a lot of other comments, I'm getting fed up of some of the presenters wittering on and the chemistry between some of the combinations just makes me want to cringe. There's at least three odd couples been on today!!

The BBC are well aware of the fact that certain artists won't allow a timetabled recordable broadcast of their entire set. I remember having to put up with the deplorable Basement Jaxx when the BBC wouldn't confess they wouldn't be showing Bowie! Neil Young has been in this position with the BBC before so it didn't surprise me on Friday. The BBC see Glastonbury as 'right on' and cheap broadcasting so are never going to pay the going rate for those artists who have a commercial interest in their own live performances (like a Neil Young 2008/9 world tour dvd). Very glad I went to Hyde Park last night to see NY in the flesh. Just Brilliant. Perhaps the BBC will be more honest in future when they know they will only be showing a snippet of a performers set, it would certainly avoid the negative view many now have of them, and yes the presenters drivelling drives me to distraction.
Having seen Mark Cooper's comment about the problems with Neil Young's management over the broadcast of his set I now have some sympathy for the problem but why, oh why weren't the Beeb or the presenters honest and up front about this. Why leave everyone expecting more when they must have known differently. Many of these complaints would never have been posted if that had happened. Anyway, to anyone who has not seen Neil Young live do all you can to see him at least once. His concert at Nottingham this week was fantastic as was his concert last year at Hammersmith. The man is a genius.
I was like many disappointed that we could not see Neil Youngs set the way we saw Brooooces', and maybe Aunty Beeb could have played it better by giving timely and more accurate info out, however I have to say just in support of the Beeb that their coverage of Glasters is far far far superior to the debacle that was ITV at the Isle of Wight last week.

Quite funny that Neil Young homepage has been renamed 'unnamed page' on the link.
Well done the Boss and the E-Street Band, fine set, fine coverage by the Beeb. Looking forward to the coverage of Blur headlining tonight.
