(416) we've got a Franz Ferdinand fan in the room!

Comment (416) was obviously written by some fop who didn't see any footage but thought it'd be uber cool to write unfounded and extremely ignorant observations.
Bruce Springsteen isn't programmed to be substandard, his head would spontaneously explode if he wasn't anything but world class.
Now be off with you Spangherosbootlace, have mummy make you up a toasted sandwich in the shape of morrissey.

Bruce's guitarists - one is Nils Lofgren, but doesn't the other one look like the actor from the Sopranos?

A mind-blowing performance from Bruce and the E Street Band. It shows what a real passion for music can do. Sheer class!

422 - he is the actor from the Sopranos - Steven Van Zandt!
They rocked it. The Boss truly is the Boss. He is the best at what he does.

In reply to post 422: yes the guitarist was in The Sopranos. He's Steven Van Zandt who played Silvio Dante.
Awesome set only slightly spoiled by BBC's terrible coverage.

An utter crime by the bbc to imply it will be a complete live performane and then provide it. Bruce 10/10. BBC 0/10. Awful editing. You don't understand this artist, you don't understand anything. Just do what you are capable of... point a camera and a microphone at this man and is incredible band and leave it up to them to decide what we see and hear, and it what order. No wonder Bruce has always hated the idea of festivals and the ignorant media that interfere with them. For the record... it was of course fantastic ... but no thanks to the bbc.

I was quite excited when I saw BBC2 & BBC2 part 2 in the video links. I thought you had relented and decided to let us actually see the whole set. But no, the second half of Part2 is just Trash City!
For goodness sake have the decency to broadcast the whole set UNCUT preferably on TV so Bruce's fans can at least record and keep it - especially as these videos are going to be taken down after 7 days!!

Beg my pardon on my previous post - I meant bbc 'not' providing a complete live performance.
For those asking about born in usa and philadelpia etc not featuring- BS does not of course need to play all his 'famous' songs like many who do festivals who are there to revitalise their popularity - BS can sell out a stadium in an instant. I'm guessing a bit, but I think I know.... he rarely plays these 2 great songs now cos Philly is a film signature that had its own context, and born in usa is a protest song written in about 1980 but published in 84 about the Vietnam war and the aftermath for Veterans, which also lacks context now. Unlike these, many of his other older songs are much more personal and can therefore have resonance at any time. Believe me, bruce is truly a man who cares about what he is communicating and when - a rare quality.

@PrinceWackoJacko - I believe Bruce is actually 59, which is even more amazing!
What an amazing set, passionate and quality. Very jealous of anybody who was there, shame I'm broke! I really want to see coverage of The Rising though.

Completely agree with what TheHurf is saying. However, I fear the BBC either will not or are contractually bound not to show the full performance. I would suspect that it might even have to do with the possible DVD: Bruce Springsteen Live - Glastonbury 2009

I, for one, wish to thank the BBC. Since Bruce's set was over two and a half hours long, I think that we had a good chunk of it, especially as they repeated it on Sunday and featured two extra songs.
I thought that the coverage was excellent, considering those annoying flags that must have got in the way of the cameras. The sound balance could have been better and the band looked as if they were struggling to overcome this at first. Things got better as the set progressed.
I've just read a whole load of negative comments from the press, mainly centred around Bruce not including "Born In The USA' and not performing songs that people knew. They should have realised that he no longer performs his biggest hit for reasons discussed elsewhere. If they did not know the other songs, they obviously are not familiar with his work, which is not his fault. I knew virtually none of the songs played by other bands, but assumed that they must
be well known to others. It did not prevent me from enjoying some excellent music.

Dibsta (407) - I think the song you're after is by Lisa Hannigan called I Don't Know - lovely tune.
Excellent coverage by the BBC by the way. Those of you complaining are behaving like spoilt brats. We should be grateful; the BBC is the envy of the world - no other country has anything like it.

Been a Bruce fan for as long as i can remember, never actually seen him live, about to rectify that at hampden in 2 weeks.
The beauty of Bruce is that he has so many ace tunes at his disposal, a week long gig would still not be long enough!! Songs i would have liked to see :- Sherry Darling, Wreck on the Highway and All or Nothing.

fromdelmonte (433), it's not a question of 'behaving like spoilt brats'. the BBc advertised widely that Bruce's set would be broadcast 'live', all the press listings I have and the SKY programme page listing on the day stated the set would be shown live from 11.10 on BBC2 - I naturally assumed that was the time he was due to start. Whilst watching BBC 3 coverage from 10.00 it was obvious he was already on stage - you could hear him in the background and the presenters were referring to it. Then when the actual coverage did start on BBC2 they showed a mishmash of edited highlights until the very few last songs that were actually broadcast live.
It is this misrepresentation that most of us are complaining about - if the BBC had made it clear from the outset what they would be doing, instead of a) misleading us, and b) wasting so much time letting their presenters waffleon about nothing when they could have been actually broadcasting Bruce live then I for one would have no complaint.
The problem with the way they have broadcast their edited version is they have omitted several crucial and (for me) much looked forward to songs and totally re-vamped the set. If they were going to cut some then theyshould at least have kept what they left in its correct order as per the set list - at least use an editor who understands the music.
Finally to show the intro to 'No Surrender' including Bruce inviting Brian onto stage to join him, thennot broadcast the actuall performance was the most bitterly disappointing part of the whole debarcle.

BTW - I have no problem at all with Bruce's choice of which songs to play and which to omit. I trust his judgement and accept whatever reasons he has for playing the ones he does - and don't forget we didn't get to see the 'audience request' portion that plays a part in the set list.
Fortunately I have seen hom in the past, including the original 'Born in The USA' gig at Wembley Stadium, so I havwe good enough memories of seeing those songs performed live. I like to see the more recent stuff now I can't get to gigs myself any more.

I love Bruce Springsteen and was annoyed when the BBC did not show all of his live performance, especially as my favourite song was in the first section of the performance which was left out! The BBC have to do something so fans can see the whole performance!!
