After the implosion of skate punks Test Icicles, Dev Hynes decamped to Omaha, Nebraska to write a suite of gently skewed acoustic melodies which became the 2008 album Falling Off The Lavender Bridge.

Jonsey
Dev Hynes is hardly an inconspicuous individual. On the way to the peel tent friday morning he was spotted strolling around the vicinity chatting to fans in his wellies, entering 'into the spirit of things' as he put it. Evidently he is very down to earth for a guy who took to the stage in a cape, but this kind of contradiction is just what makes him so enjoyable. The gig was introduced by Hynes as a 'fat rave' despite the structured accoustic pop he proceeded to exhibit. Yet in a weird way it was (a fat rave that is)- the soaring melodies (as well as, for some, the star wars theme tune played by his more than competent band) being more than enough to make those crowd members who had taken his tongue-in-cheek advice to get over to the herbal ecstacy tent extremely high indeed! The tracks played off Lavender Bridge were, unsurprisingly, beautifully executed but the two new songs provided a glimpse also of what is yet to come- 'Marlene' a self described 'funky' number and as for 'kill me baby won't you kill me', well it's no mean feat to have an entire crowd singing back the words to a song they have herd for the first time- The man is talented!
