Watch Michael Eavis explain how he is very proud of Jay-Z.
He came, he saw, he conquered. Strolling onstage with a guitar for a tongue-in-cheek cover of Oasis' Wonderwall, Jay-Z's headline set was shot through with style and humour. With no special guests he made the Pyramid stage bounce with a devastating greatest hits set that marked a defining moment for Glastonbury. Point proved.
1xtra's Semtex explains what makes Jay-Z's lyrics and delivery so unique.
Ahead of his Glastonbury performance, Jay-Z spoke to Tim Westwood about his career, the reaction to his announcement as headliner and about hip hop as live entertainment. Listen to clips from the interview below. Hear the full interview on Westwood's show on Radio 1 .

Glastonbury 08, Jay-Z headlining, do I have to say any more!? I knew he would put on a good performance because he is a true entertainer and his humour, talent and stage presence absolutely rocked!!! Great gig that, I think, everyone enjoyed even though you're not a Jay-Z fan to start with. Much love to him, he proved a lot of people wrong and he did it with style!!!

I went to see Jay-Z on the Pyramid stage - opening was good but it tailed off a bit for me and it certainly wasn't the best show at Glasto this year!

Saw The Big Zizzle at Glasto!Surely the greatest glastonbury moment of all time. It was amazing to witness and has proved all the doubters wrong. Jay Z is now the biggest superstar in the world. Bring on Glasto '09!!!

I think Jay put on an awesome performance at Glastonbury, it almost made me feel like I was actually there. But Jigga always put on a good performance anyway.

His performance at Glasto was electric. I've never experienced anything like the atmosphere in the build up. The opening movie and wonderwall cover was inspired! Was that really him singing it though??

About time for Change!!!! Some people need to check their history on where rock began, etc. Glad Jay-Z performed...if anything it made the festival even better!

I was in the second row from the front, the atmosphere was incredible and he lived up to and surpassed my expectations. definately the highlight of the festival!!!

Like many, I had my doubts..... but what a triumph!! What a showman. He put on the best all round show of the weekend - the visual effects were stunning and he showed great humour and awareness. Wouldn't want to listen to his records but I would go to a nother show of his tomorrow!

I didn't actually attend Glastonbury, but like many people across the UK, watched Jay-Z via BBC3. I had never really paid much attention to Jay-Z before his interview on Johnathan Ross. I had heard several of his well-known hits i.e. 99 Problems, but disregarded him because I believed that he was "just another hip-hop artist". After watching that interview, my opinion changed somewhat and I decided to watch the set. I was blown away by his "friendly stab" at Noel Gallagher and the set that followed. Jay-Z certainly showed the critics the middle-finger with his performance. Although he performed solo for the most part, he maintained a striking stage presence and a bond with the audience that may artists fail/neglect to produce these day. In all, my opinion of Jay-Z has changed full-circle following that performance.

the opening was cheeky and brilliant...got a bit tiring half way through, but what an end.
