Ayr UnitedOn Sunday 7 September 2008, Ayr United FC opened its doors to the public as part of Doors Open Days. Guided tours offering a glimpse behind the scenes of Somerset Park and activities for children made for a great day out for all the family. ![]() Midfielder Scott Agnew This year sees the club celebrate 120 years of football at its present ground. Somerset Park first opened its gates in 1888. Many had attended football games at the ground but it wasn't until Sunday that you could see around the Park for yourself. There were guided tours beginning on the pitchside to the Boardroom and even a peek inside the Manager's office. Club historian Duncan Carmichael shared his knowledge of the club and ground, before club director Hugh Cameron showed talked through what happens on a match day. The Referee's room, Dressing room, Changing room and Boot room were all open to inspection. There was even a chance to sit in the Director's Box. Help playing audio/video Meanwhile, on the pitch players gave coaching sessions to children throughout the day and there was a fun area if you wanted a bit of light-hearted target practice. Everyone looked as if they were having a great time. It really was a day out for all the family whether you wanted to know more about the Club, see around the grounds or show your skill on the pitch with the help of the players.
