We are working on a new site.

It's a work-in-progress and we'd love for you to take a look.

Smartphone and Feature phone

When designing for BBC mobile platforms it is vital that we cater for both smartphones and feature phones. We do not focus on a specific device. Device detection will ensure that each mobile device is served with the correct design.

It is also important to note that these definitions are likely to change as new devices are released into the marketplace.

  • Serve large image sizes (over WiFi).
  • Strong support for XHTML, Javascript and CSS. Some CSS3 support.
Feature phone

Feature phones

  • Screen resolution ranges from 240px width.
  • Directional pad input.
  • Serve smaller image sizes.
  • Unreliable or no javascript capabilities.
