Carol Klein and Joe Swift went to RHS Wisley in their search for the nation's best amateur gardener. Bob Tridgett was crowned BBC Gardener of the Year 2007.
Five finalists from across the UK were put through their horticultural paces. They faced a combination of RHS-standard challenges.
The contestants took part in a number of timed practical tasks including dead-heading, pruning, lawn edging and taking cuttings.
The finalists then had to name ten herbaceous perennials against the clock.
Day two saw the three through to the final round build an RHS show-standard summer border within a two hour deadline and face a BBC Mastermind style specialist knowledge round.
