More commonly seen and known as the Christmas tree, Picea abies does make a beautiful specimen tree for large gardens and parks. It has a conical shape with attractive red-brown bark and short, deep green needles. Plant it in moist but well-drained soil, ideally one that is slightly acidic, in full sun, where it will eventually reach to about 40m (131ft).
