Alfalfa is usually grown and harvested as the seeds start to sprout. It is one of the easiest plants to grow and can be grown indoors, any time of year. The seeds are just sprinkled on moist paper towels or blotting paper and placed in a screw-top jar. Placed in bright light the seeds will germinate quickly and can be used in salads and sandwhiches Alfalfa is also grown as a fodder crop, growing outdoors to about 90cm (3ft) with violet blue flowers.
