Begonias are great for growing in pots, tubs or at the front of the garden border, providing splashes of summer colour. Along with busy lizzies and fuchsias, are ideal for shady patios as they prefer light shade to full sun. This type has large, double white flowers from May to September. Start the tubers off in late February at a temperature of about 15C (60F) and plant out in to their final spot in late May to early June. The tubers can also be overwintered, lift in autumn before the first frosts, and dry them off. Dust with a fungicide and store in a frost-free place.
