There are several good varieties of osteospermum to choose from, but probably the most reliable is this, the actual species. Flower colour varies from pinky-white to soft red. Plants have narrow, green foliage, which can become quite dense in established plants, and the stems, although upright at first, spread sideways to make spreading clumps. The flowers are produced with great freedom all summer and into autumn. Needs overwintering indoors. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
