Tree mallows or shrubby mallows are very fast growing plants that flower in their first year, and develop rapidly in size to form large bushy shrubs. They flourish in most free-draining soils in full sun. Throughout the summer they produce quantities of large, open, white to pale pink blooms with a bright red eye. 'Barnsley' has a tendency to revert to the darker flowered parent plant, so shoots carrying deep pink blooms should be removed promptly. Stake plants in windy positions. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
