Many andromedas have been re-classified under other names, such as leucothoe, leaving just two species of native bog plants These are widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, and have been grown in gardens for over 200 years. This species is found in acid bogs and peatbeds, indicating the conditions the plants enjoy most. It is a dwarf spreading shrub, the form 'Nana' even more so, with dense branching foliage that is attractive at all times, but especially when covered in the tight clusters of bright pink blooms. Plants grow best in cool shade.
