Kirengeshoma

An unusual woodland plant, with upright stems in loose clumps, supporting large, light green, sycamore-shaped leaves which make a good backdrop for other flowers during the late spring and summer, and associate well with hardy ferns and hostas. Plants appear late above ground and flower in early and mid autumn, when the tips of the stems produce yellow bell flowers, 2.5cm (1in) long a very well- sheltered site is vital to protect the blooms from early frosts and bad weather. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
