Sometimes known as wild marjoram, this mat-forming, rhizomatous herb has aromatic heart-shaped leaves, which are used widely in cooking, especially on pizzas and in pasta sauces. During summer, the plant is almost covered in pale pink flowers. These dry out naturally on the plant and gradually fade, remaining a feature until autumn when they can be removed.
