Unlike its climbing relations, this herbaceous clematis is ideal for the middle of the border. From mid-summer to early autumn, delicate bell-shaped, blue flowers with cream anthers appear, followed by fluffy silver-brown seed-heads. Herbaceous clematis flower on the current year's growth. If pruning is required, cut them back to about 15-20cm (6-8in) above soil level in early spring before new growth appears.
