This is an unusual evergreen perennial with a trailing habit and small, thin, silver leaves. From late spring to early summer the blooms are freely produced in pairs, usually deep red or scarlet, and resembling a parrot's beak, hence the comical common name. It is suitable for growing in hanging baskets and over the sides of containers. However, it is not hardy and needs to be moved to a frost free place during winter.
