This clematis is a late-flowering climber with beautiful, deep blue, saucer-shaped flowers with contrasting golden anthers. It is an unusual clematis in that it is a non-clinging, semi-climbing perennial that requires staking. It can be grown as a border plant, planted at the back where it can climb through other plants or up a trellis. It flowers on the current year's growth so cut back last years branches to about 15-20cm (6-8in) above the soil level in early spring before the new growth starts.
