Cape fuchsia, 'Yellow Trumpet' drips with bunches of creamy yellow tubular flowers throughout the summer. Originally from South Africa, Cape fuchsias are on the tender-side in the UK. It is best to take cuttings in late spring to overwinter in a frost-free place to replace the parent plant if it does not come through the winter. Protect plants by putting on a dry mulch each autumn. In colder areas, the top growth may be hit by frosts. In this case, cut back to ground level in spring and the plant should resprout. Plant in a sunny spot in moist but well-drained soil.
