'Scarlet Emperor' is an old favourite with bright red flowers. It produces heavy crops of long, smooth textured dark-green pods. The pods are very long, up to 38cm (15in), and have the stringiness we usually associate with older varieties of runner beans. Runner beans like a soil that has had plenty of organic matter worked into it.
