This graceful Japanese shrub is popular for its early display of bright flowers on bare branches. All the corylopsis species are breathtaking in spring: lovely shrubs that deserve space in a lightly shaded part of the garden where their blooms will be protected from spring frosts. This species is densely branched, often wider than it is tall, and with a naturally graceful habit that can be spoilt by pruning. The flowers are primrose yellow, cowslip-scented, and open slightly earlier than other species'. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
