An interesting species from North America with large tri-foliate leaves and green and purple-striped spathes in spring and early summer followed by clusters of conspicuous bright red fruits in autumn. It's perfect for adding an exotic touch to a shady border or jungle garden. Plant tubers 15-25cm (6-10in) deep in winter or spring. Grow in moist, well-drained soil in a cool, partially shaded site. Mulch in winter when the plants have died down and protect from late frosts in spring.
