Smaller and less spikey than many other agaves, this species makes an interesting addition to a succulent collection. It is a native of Mexico where it is found in desert and semi-desert regions. Large groups are found growing on steep canyon walls. In the UK, it is best grown in the greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
