Sweetly scented jasmine is one of Anne Swithinbank's favourite houseplants. In late winter and early spring, it is covered in bunches of white flowers, which open from pink-tinted buds. As an evergreen, this vigorous climber remians looking good throughout the year. It is often sold as a young plant, trained around a metal hoop. However, it can reach over 3m (10ft) tall. To help keep its size in check, overcrowded growth can be trimmed after flowering. Grow in John Innes No2 compost in bright, filtered light. Water freely and feed monthly when in growth but keep on the dry side during winter. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
