A striking, rich, red Hybrid Perpetual that's grown for its sweet scent and repeat flowering. It does well in long, hot summers, stands up well in rain, and is disease-resistant. Also good for long-lasting cut flowers, but beware the prickles. Introduced in 1865 in France, it's more popular abroad than in the UK where you'll be hard pressed to find anyone selling it. Worth tracking down.
