Native to New Zealand, the silver shore cottonwood can withstand extreme coastal winds, and quickly roots on the crests of sand dunes and is therefore a useful ally in the battle against dune erosion. It has small, silvery leaves and masses of creamy summer flowers with a musky scent. In colder areas of the country grow in a large pot and overwinter in a conservatory or cold greenhouse.
