A low-growing spreading herb, the leaves can be used raw or in salads, though only in small quantities because it can be quite strong. It does not flower in the UK where it is grown as an annual. Centella is also grown as a medicinal herb in the Far East where it is used to combat almost everything from ulcers to depression. Its Indian name is Brahmi, which means; bringing knowledge of the 'Supreme Reality'.
