Usually grown for making jam (there are sweeter kinds for eating straight off the branch), it crops in mid- to late August. The fruit is medium-sized, oval and golden yellow. The big advantage of growing 'Pershore Yellow Egg' is that it's self-fertile, and won't need another nearby plum to fruit. Plums can be grown as fans against walls or cordons, or half-standard or standard trees. Since the spring flowers are easily damaged by frost (which adversely affects the crop), throw a fleece over the bush if a frost is predicted.
