A superb bushy, deciduous shrub which easily fits into most borders because it never gets above head high. It has sensational daphne-like scent in April and May when the red buds open to reveal packed clusters of tiny pink flowers. Give it a sunny sheltered site where the scent will hang in the air, and won't get whipped away by blustery winds. And, with luck, the leaves will redden up in the autumn before falling. It has been given the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society.
