Colchicum agrippinum is a popular autumn-flowering bulb, with patterned purplish-pink funnel-shaped flowers. These are produced in autumn before the foliage appears in spring, giving it the unusual common name of naked ladies. It's best grown in a sunny spot in well-drained soil that doesn't get too dry. Plant 10cm (4in) deep in summer or early autumn.
