Although related to the brightly coloured busy lizzies that are often used for summer bedding, this species is grown mainly for its foliage rather than its flowers. It forms a low-growing, spreading clump covered with handsome dark green, velvety leaves with striking white midribs. It's easy to grow but requires a shady position as the leaves tend to scorch in sunshine. Its exotic appearance makes it ideal for jungle style plantings and shady containers.
