If you thought all cornflowers were blue then think again. 'Black Ball', as its name suggests, produces lovely rich milk-chocolate coloured blooms on thin wiry stems. Plants sown in August or September should produce blooms in early summer. This plant looks most effective when placed in clumps in borders, especially when surrounded by lighter coloured foliage or flowers.
