The popular summer cabbage 'Greyhound', maturing a little after the earliest kinds such as 'Kingspi', is a pointed variety, as most early kinds are - later varieties are round and solid, and stand for longer when mature. Plants grow very fast, and yield tender juicy hearts with a mild flavour, but as they have to compete with other summer crops, it is best not to grow too many. Successional sowing produces a steady supply. Earliest heads can be cut, leaving the stump in the ground to produce a second crop of small leafy heads.
