Hardenbergia is an evergreen, twining climber, with woody stems and bright vivid purple pea-like flowers, held in bunches. Although usually grown as a climber, hardenbergia will also creep along the ground, making it useful ground cover on shallow soils. Plants grow best on soils that don't dry out completely. To retain moisture keep plants well mulched and incorporate well rotted manure into the soil before planting. Attractive seed pods are also borne in the autumn.
