A Garden for Robin

Design inspiration

Gold medal "Our garden is inspired by York Gate garden in North Leeds, designed by Robin Spencer in the mid 20th century. We have reflected York Gate's theatrical atmosphere, design coherence and Robin's attention to detail with our use of plants and materials. Contrasting textures and patterns in the sandstone, granite, metal and slate provide a flow and a rhythm, describing a route around the space. With the planting, we're trying to evoke the lush verdancy of spring at York Gate, punctuated by subtle, yet dramatic, combinations of colour."

John Walker - co-designer of A Garden for Robin
