2000 The Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place is opened. The bank conserves over 24,000 worldwide species. The coco de mer, or the double coconut, from the Seychelles, is the largest nut in the world.
2001/2 Creation of the Eden Project. The Eden Project's groundbreaking domes, which are built in a Cornish clay pit, house a collection of Mediterranean and tropical plants.
2003 Monty Don becomes the new presenter of Gardeners' World.
2004 The RHS celebrates its 200th anniversary with the creation of seven gardens at RHS Harlow Carr.
