Cymbidium orchid

Make more cymbidium orchids

Follow our easy-care guide to growing cymbidiums and learn how simple they are to propagate.

What to do

  • When the plant has finished flowering, remove it from its pot and divide by pulling above ground bulbs and roots apart. Use a knife if the roots are tough.
  • Make sure each piece has three above ground bulbs.
  • Fill a pot, a little wider than the piece of orchid, with orchid compost. Plant the orchid, off centre, with newest growth aiming towards the middle of the pot.
  • Firm down compost and water.
  • Put in a shady place to root.
  • Allow plants to fill the pot before dividing.
