Hyacinth 'Delft blue'

Grow indoor hyacinths

How to brighten up your home and fill it with delicious spring scent during the cold winter months. Follow our planting guide.

What to do

  • To make one bowl you will need three bulbs of the same colour.
  • Plant each bulb to half its depth in a pot filled with damp bulb fibre.
  • Put pots in a dark garage or shed for about 10 weeks
  • Keep pots moist. When shoots are 5cm (2in) high arrange pots in a bowl and fill gaps with more bulb fibre.
  • Place in a light spot to flower.
  • Grow Narcissus 'Paperwhite' the same way, but bring out of the dark and put on a sunny windowsill as soon as the buds appear or the stems will become long and lanky.
