How to transform a sunny patch of ground by growing a sunflower screen.

Use sunflowers to make an attractive screen that will fill your garden with colour through the summer.

What to do

  • Prepare planting site by digging over.
  • Rake to leave a fine finish.
  • Plant seeds 1.5cm (0.5in) deep and 45cm (18in) apart in rows.
  • Plant two or three rows with larger varieties at the back and dwarf sunflowers at the front.
  • Cover seeds with soil and water.
